Want to be a Crime Stopper? There’s an App for that
KJ Mullins (with files from Shane Mullins)- Toronto: You know about a criminal planning a crime but telling can be dangerous. You can stop the crime without being known as of today using a mobile app from your smart phone.
This morning at Toronto Police headquarters the Toronto Crime Stoppers Program launched the latest tool in crime fighting: Toronto Crime Stoppers 9800. Toronto’s Crime Stoppers app is the first of its kind in North America allowing residents to stay hidden while the criminals are unmasked.
“Crime Stoppers receives over 200 anonymous tips on a weekly basis, but the fact remains that many people who witness crimes are generally apprehensive about reporting misconduct for fear of being identified,” said Constable Martin Douglas, Toronto Crime Stoppers Youth and Social Media Officer. “With this app, we hope bystanders will feel more empowered to be socially responsible and take action.”
This App allows residents of the Greater Toronto Area to alert police in real time about potential crime or crimes that are happening right then and there. Toronto Crime Stoppers 9800 can send photos, video footage, emails, text, and features a button that autodials Crime Stoppers’ 1?800?222?TIPS(8477) number.
The mobile App is available for download for all smartphones.
