Quilts get a Warm Reception at Black Creek Pioneer Village
-‘Quilts at the Creek’ Event Celebrates Old and New Textile Traditions-
(Toronto—July 20, 2012) – On Saturday July 28 and Sunday July 29, ‘Quilts at the Creek’ will be taking place at Black Creek Pioneer Village. The event will include quilting demonstrations by historical interpreters, over 100 contemporary handmade quilts displayed throughout the Village, and a Quilters’ Marketplace where visitors can purchase everything from fully completed quilts and sewing machines, to quilting fabrics, patterns and threads.
As part of the event, visitors will have the opportunity to preview handmade quilts that will be auctioned off on September 15 as part of the 56th Annual Pioneer Festival. The sale raises funds for the Mennonite Central Committee in support of their worldwide relief efforts. This is an exciting opportunity for visitors to view the quilts before they go to auction in September.
The event will also feature Certified Professional Quilt Appraiser Rosalie I. Tennison, who will be making two special presentations during the event, discussing the Steele’s textile, a unique masterpiece in the museum collection, and describing methods for the identification and care of vintage textiles. Ms. Tennison will also be providing quilt appraisals by appointment during the event. Appraisals must be pre-booked and include a written document that describes the key features of the quilt as well as an up-to-date value.
Featured in the gallery located in the Visitor’s Centre, is the ‘Timeless Textiles: Three Families and their Quilts’ exhibit where visitors can view rarely seen 19th and 20th century quilts that were donated to Black Creek Pioneer Village by families whose ancestors once lived and worked in the local area. The exhibit offers a glimpse into the lives and lifestyles of local families in historic Ontario, and their ties to the origins of Black Creek Pioneer Village. Timeless Textiles will be on exhibit to the general public until November 30, 2012.
‘Quilts at the Creek’ is hosted by Black Creek Pioneer Village and York Heritage Quilters Guild to inform, entertain and educate the public on an important textile tradition and its importance to Canada, both today and in the past.

Admission: Admission to ‘Quilts at the Creek’ is included with general Village Admission – $15 for adults, $11 for children, and $14 for seniors and students. You are certainly enltited to your opinion and I thank you for taking time to express it. However, I must correct you on your assumption that I know nothing about the stuff I’m posting. I have never claimed to be an expert but have told everyone that I have been knitting, sewing, crafting for years. I am somewhat of an expert knitter, but openly admitted that I am no crochet expert. I’ve also stated that my quilting techniques would not be considered perfect by expert quilters. I just want to make it fun to do crafting and quilting, and, as long as it turns out well, who cares if it’s done correctly or not. As far as the blog being popular, I would thank a fellow blogger would be happy for me. My website has been up for more than a year and until now I’ve hardly received any hits on it, so I’m very proud that someone is finally taking notice of it. And, for the record, you do sound mean; and, I am not trying to get away with anything.
