A journey into the life of Sri Lankan activist who risks her life to stand up for basic human rights.
Why We Want to Make this film: Refuge will tell the emotional journey of Ms. Aadirai , a young woman in a loving and committed relationship – a relationship that was cut tragically short by the Army. The story of what happened after she escaped the brutal regime– of how millions of stateless people can find themselves completely shut out and ostracized– is poignant, enraging and opening a window into the issue of living equally….
Parthiban Shanmugam-Atlanta: On March 14, 2012, three years after Chanel 4 released “Sri Lanka’s Killing fields unpunished,” part II. This film, posted on YouTube, has received over millions of hits and inspired over hundreds and thousands of e-mails and comments on YouTube and Facebook. The impact of Chanel 4’s original documentary film and the raw nerve it touched for so many, tells us this is an important story that needs to be told… and told now. Please give your donations generously and be the voice for all those who can’t be heard and have been forgotten.
Our ambitious production schedule can be met if we immediately raise our bare minimum, fundraising goal of $15, 000. To all of you Kickstarter novices out there: if we fall short of our goal during the designated donation period, we will lose all money raised, along with the opportunity to make this film, as well as play a meaningful role in the burgeoning issue of crime against humanity.
If we are in the fortunate position of having surpassed our minimum goal, we will use this money to enhance the production value of the film and pay for costly marketing, distribution and music.
