At least two series of sexual assaults in downtown Toronto

Toronto Police are dealing with what could be two or more series of sexual assaults in the downtown.

In the Bloor Street and Christie area six sexual assaults since July could be related to the same suspect.

On July 4 at about 4:00 a.m. a 19-year-old female was sexually assaulted just off of College east of Spadina when a suspect approached her and pushed her against a wall. The victim fought the man off and screamed. She ran to a home in the area and the resident came to her aid calling the police.

On July 6 at about 5:00 a.m. a woman cut through a parkette to Augusta Avenue near Denison Avenue. She was grabbed by a man who pushed her to the ground, dragging her to a laneway and sexually assaulted her. She fought off the man and ran away.

On August 19 two attacks took place. At about 12:40 a.m. a woman was walking in the Bloor Street West/Clinton Street area when a man approached her from behind. The man sexually assaulted her before fleeing.

The second attack took place at about 11:00 p.m. in the Bloor Street West/Grace Street area. The suspect approached the victim, 25, from behind and sexually assaulted her before running away.

On August 28 at 8:30 p.m. the victim, 16, was walking on Barton Avenue when she saw a man standing at the intersection of Barton Avenue and Christie Street. The man crossed the street walking directly behind the woman. She continued walking to Palmerston Avenue where the suspect sexually assaulted her. She screamed and the suspect fled.

On August 29 at 12:55 p.m. a woman was on Grace Street near Bloor Street West when she was approached by a man from behind. The victim, 26, was sexually assaulted.

The suspect in the July attacks is described as a six-foot black male with short black hair. He wore black clothing and is believed to be 25-40 years old. The suspect in the August attacks is thought to be  between 5’7” and 5’9”. He has short black hair and victims have described him as being between 17 and 35 years of age.

It is thought that the suspects could be the same person but police are not ruling out that these attacks could have been from more than one suspect.

Police are also looking for a suspect in three attacks in the downtown Yonge Street area.

The first attack took place on August 23 at 2:00 p.m. The suspect approached the victim, a 18-year-old woman befriending her and engaging in conversation in the Yonge Street/Wellesley Street West area. The suspect took her to a nearby apartment building where he sexually assaulted her.

On August 24 the suspect approached a woman, 40, in the Dundas Street East and Parliament Street area. The woman was taken by the man to the rear of a business and sexually assaulted.

On Wednesday the suspect approached a female victim, 26, in the Yonge Street/Gloucester Street area. The victim was taken to a nearby apartment building and sexually assaulted.

Police believe there could be more victims.
