October 2, 2012 [Toronto, ON] — We all want to solve the mystery along with our favourite detective. And now we can when the award-winning web series, Ruby Skye P.I., returns with nine new episodes on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at RubySkyePI.com. This season our intrepid teen detective, Ruby Skye (Madison Cheeatow), has her hands full with ghostly late night happenings, a missing will, plenty of girl drama and an elusive mystery man. Between episodes, viewers can go to RubySkyePI.com to study the clues that Ruby has discovered. Each clue is a puzzle for audiences to solve adding up to whole lot of mystery and fun.
Ruby Skye P.I.: The Haunted Library is produced by Story 2.OH and was created by interactive storyteller, Jill Golick. Kelly Harms (My Babysitter’s a Vampire) assumes the director’s role for a second spine-tingling season.
In The Haunted Library, Ruby is on the trail of who ever or whatever is making those scary noises late at night in the spooky old O’Deary Library. Before she makes much progress on the case, Ava O’Deary (Rosemary Dunsmore), the library’s puzzle-loving owner dies without leaving a will. That means Ava’s nearest living relative, Lillian O’Shyte (Laura de Carteret), will inherit everything. And she plans to bulldoze the library and replace it with an adults-only condo tower. Ruby vows to save the library. But how?
“Tweens and teens want to live out their favourite storyworlds and experience them whenever and wherever they can,” says Creator and Executive Producer, Jill Golick.
With lots of puzzles and interactive content to engage young audiences, Ruby Skye P.I.: The Haunted Library is the evolution of interactive narrative and the natural next step in young adult detective fiction. The series offers discreet mysteries that are just like TV episodes and features great teen characters kids can truly related to. There are also websites that build out the reality of the world.
Viewers can explore the website of the “haunted” O’Deary Library to learn more about the characters, the books mentioned in the mystery and to find – or submit – book reviews, author profiles, interviews with YA authors and original book cover art work. Fans can get to know the characters better by following them on Tumblr. And young nerds can even solve cryptic word puzzles created by Ava O’Deary on her puzzle site: ODearyPuzzles.com.
The property includes one hour’s worth of narrative video content, 50 behind-the-scenes and extra features video, four web sites, four Tumblr blogs, multiple social media channels, and nine interactive clues for the audience to solve, plus puzzles, games, blog posts and a whole lot more.
Mixed media artist and transmedia propmaker, Haley Moore, designed the Ruby Skye P.I. artifacts. Several of the interactive elements are being handled using Conducttr, the pervasive entertainment platform developed by Robert Pratton of Transmedia Storyteller Ltd.
Throughout October and November 2012, Team Ruby Skye P.I. will be challenging viewers to solve the puzzle clues that Ruby finds in the episodes, and send in their answers. The first 10 people to correctly solve the puzzles will be rewarded with shout-outs on YouTube and Facebook. And the whole community will be rewarded with the release of the video teaser for the next episode!
In addition, Ruby Skye P.I.: The Haunted Library has partnered with Plan Canada and Because I Am A Girl, an initiative to eliminate poverty and change the lives of girls in developing countries. Ruby Skye P.I. character and techno-wiz younger sister, Hailey Skye (Marlee Maslove) will be raising money for the charity in the fictional and real world via her website at haileyskye.com. Because I Am A Girl was written into the Season 2 script and provides a key plot point around which the rivalry between Ruby Skye and “mean girl” Diana Naughton (Elena Gorgevska) can revolve.
New to the Season 2 cast is Scott Beaudin who plays the mysterious yet dishy ‘Edmund’. Also joining the cast are Geri Hall (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) and Jordan Prentice (Mirror Mirror, In Bruges and The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico). Newcomer Samanatha Wan plays dust allergic librarian ‘Ophelia Bedelia’ while Shaun Shetty (Call Me Fitz) rounds out the cast as the stalwart barrister, ‘Mr. Finch’.
Ruby Skye P.I.: The Haunted Library was shot at the Emmanuel College Library and at various location in Toronto, Canada.
The series was produced by Story 2.OH with the participation of The Independent Production Fund (IPF) and made possible with the support of The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC).
