Eat, Share, and Relax: Thanksgiving weekend is also off-peak!
TORONTO, Oct. 5, 2012 /CNW/ – Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited (“Toronto Hydro”) is reminding customers that this Thanksgiving weekend electricity rates will be off-peak all weekend long. The weather is cooling down and air conditioners are at ease, but ovens will be roasting, music will be playing and customers should take advantage of the lowest electricity rates.
The following dates are designated off-peak days and electricity is priced at the lowest cost: Saturday, October 6; Sunday, October 7; and Monday, October 8.
Time-of-Use (TOU) Pricing, Monday to Friday (weekends are always off-peak):
- ON-PEAK: 11.7 ¢/kWh (11am to 5pm)
- MID-PEAK: 10.0 ¢/kWh (7am to 11am and 5pm to 7pm)
- OFF-PEAK: 6.5 ¢/kWh (7pm to 7am)
TOU rates are designed to encourage customers to shift their electricity use to off-peak periods. Toronto Hydro encourages conservation at all times and especially during higher pricing periods to help customers manage hydro bills. In Hydro-speak, the spring and fall months are known as the “shoulder periods”. It’s a time when the outside temperatures are mild and, by putting on a sweater, customers can leave the thermostat off and save some energy. The shoulder periods are a great time to conserve to make up for higher bills from the summer cooling season and for those with electric heating.
As a reminder, the Coupon Event is now on at all Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Sears, Living Lighting, Sescolite and Royal Lighting locations. More details, a list of locations and the coupons can be found at: torontohydro.com/coupons
Customers interested in learning more about their electricity consumption can sign up for Toronto Hydro’s TOU website (www.torontohydro.com/tou) to view their personal electricity usage on an hourly, daily and weekly basis. The data is updated as recently as the previous day. For more information on these and other programs, visit: torontohydro.com/conservation
