Internationally acclaimed feature film, The Fourth Dimension, to be released Worldwide on October 18, 2012

Val Kilmer portrays an eccentric motivational speaker in The Fourth Dimension, the debut release from Grolsch Film Works and VICE Films (CNW Group/Grolsch)

TORONTO, Oct. 17, 2012 /CNW/ – GROLSCH FILM WORKS and VICE today announce the global YouTube release of the experimental portmanteau feature film The Fourth Dimension. This is the first feature film to be released by YouTube on the VICE channel; part of the ongoing strategy to release original, premium programming on the platform.

From Thursday, October 18th, film buffs across the globe can tune into YouTube http://bit.ly/The-Fourth-Dimension to stream The Fourth Dimension – a three-part film that has been universally accepted by the independent film community at more than 30 international film festivals including San Francisco and Tribeca – for free.

The debut release by Grolsch Film Works and VICE Films brings together an immersive trilogy by some of the world’s most exciting directors in independent cinema; Harmony Korine from the US, Russia’s Alexsei Fedorchenko and Polish-born Jan Kwiecinski and features esteemed actor Val Kilmer.

The Fourth Dimension presents three distinct interpretations and styles from the trio of filmmakers who created 30-minute shorts, filmed in their native countries, as a response to a common brief set by Eddy Moretti. Executive creative director at VICE and best known for his film Heavy Metal in Baghdad, Moretti asked Korine, Fedorchenko and Kwiecinski to explore the ethereal notion of a ‘fourth dimension’ and bring their unique approaches to character and story-telling to create a riveting narrative.

US filmmaker, Harmony Korine, well-known for uncompromising filmmaking in films such as Kids, Gummo and Mister Lonely, teams up with leading man Val Kilmer who plays himself as a motivational speaker at a fictional ‘Lotus Community Centre’, set in Nashville, Tennessee.

Russia’s Alexsei Fedorchenko, whose Silent Souls showed at the Toronto and Venice Film Festivals last year and scooped three jury prizes, shot his chapter of the film in Ekateringburg, 20 hours from Moscow. His short follows the journey of a reclusive time-traveller Grigory who is relentlessly attempting to reach the ‘fourth dimension’.

Poland’s emerging filmmaker Jan Kwiecinski, who is best known for his short-film Incident, which won awards in festivals across Poland brings raw innovation to The Fourth Dimension. His chapter, shot in Parysow, near Warsaw, follows a heady journey of young people who find themselves in an abandoned town.

Thomas Kamphuis, who heads up the Grolsch Film Works program, said: “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved with The Fourth Dimension. As Grolsch Film Works’ first feature film, we’re thrilled that it’s been so well received by the international film community. Being able to bring the film to a much wider audience through this partnership with YouTube signals our ongoing and firm commitment to independent cinema.”

Eddy Moretti, Project Director said: “The Fourth Dimension represents a cinematic experience that is defined by truly unique approaches to character and storytelling. The decision to release the film on YouTube was something we felt very passionately about. It gives us an unrivalled opportunity to showcase some of the very best in international filmmaking outside of festival screenings where The Fourth Dimension has been accepted and enjoyed this year, to a much wider audience.”

The Fourth Dimension is the first film to be produced and financed by Grolsch Film Works, which launched in April 2011 as an initiative to create truly unique cinematic experiences and champion film talent worldwide by bringing independent cinema to a wider audience.

Since its global premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival in April 2012, The Fourth Dimension has been accepted at prestigious film festivals across the world including Tribeca Film Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Moscow Film Festival, Off Plus Camera and Raindance.

Grolsch Film Works is funded by the Dutch beer Grolsch and The Fourth Dimension was created in collaboration with VICE Films.
