On the Avenue Spa is a Toronto hidden gem

KJ Mullins-Toronto: Last week I had the pleasure of checking out a new spa in Toronto. On the Avenue Spa by Woody Michleb is located on the lower floor at Living Life on the Avenue, 1066 Avenue Road. While it is tucked away the spa is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered.

On the Avenue Spa is exactly a double treat with Franko of Woody Michleb Salon manning the hair salon and Alla of Alla’s Aesthetics taking care of client’s spa needs.

Born in Kiev Alla came to Canada at the young age of 19 looking for a better life. Today she is a vibrant young single mother who is excited about owning her own salon. Opened only a few months she already has many clients and is making a profit, something unheard of for a new business in the first months.

I was treated to a Microdermabrasion Facial and manicure by the lovely Alla. At first I was leery of microdermabrasion but Alla set me at ease explaining that she has been doing this treatment for a long time. Basically the technique is buffing away outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis resulting in an ‘instant facelift’. Alla uses lotions and a machine to give you baby smooth skin during the hour long process. During each step of the treatment Alla’s comforting voice explained what she was doing to make sure I was comfortable. The treatment also included a light shoulder and head massage. Completely relaxed at the end of the treatment it was time for a perfectly executed manicure. Alla takes her time making sure that the nail is properly prepared before applying polish. That time and skill is the difference between a busy nail salon manicure and one at a true spa.

Looking like a younger version of myself I was greeted by Franko for a root touch-up and style. Franko is a master in hair knowing what shades of colour will bring out your features. He suggested a warm red tone that would bring out my eyes and set to work. Franko splits his time between Avenue Road and a salon in Yorkville but admitted he loves the laid back pace of On the Avenue Spa the most. He enjoys giving his clients his total attention.

After my colour was completed Franko went to work styling my hair. When he had finished I looked like a million bucks. That evening at a book reading I had several people commenting about how wonderful I was looking.

The prices for Franko’s services are comparable to Yorkville salon prices with haircuts ranging from $60-$150.

Alla’s prices are also comparable to Toronto spas. The facial treatment costs $130 and manicures are $25.

For a full price list visit Franko’s and Alla’s websites.

In the coming weeks Alla is planning to host an open house. When details are place newz4u.net will give you the insider’s scoop! It will be a day you want to pencil in on your calendar!
